Even though photo shoots are something we go through every week at ConeCat, for you as a client they are far less frequent events. Depending on your needs, it may happen once in a lifetime when you sell a home, once per property if you are a real estate agent or an architect, and once every year or two per home if you run vacation rentals. That is why we know that preparing for a shoot doesn't always come naturally. We want to guide you and get the best possible results from a photo shoot that you hope will be of great benefit to you and your business.
When it comes to a photo shoot, every detail matters, because our cameras capture everything, and when we say everything, we mean everything. Cleanliness and order, the lights (main lights, lamps, pool and garden lighting), how the curtains are arranged, tangled cables hanging down from the TV, a kitchen overloaded with appliances, the dish soap or sponge, stained windows, and so on. This list can get very long, and although many of these things may seem obvious, we tend to take for granted that everything should be working and well arranged. We say this from experience: during the shoot, all kinds of issues pop up, and we either rush to fix them when we can or regret them when we can't. With this post we want to raise awareness of how important it is to check and prepare properly for the shoot, because we know there is an investment behind it, so make the most of it!
We have created a very useful checklist that addresses the common mistakes made while a photo shoot is underway. It also includes recommendations that can elevate your photos, create dreamy atmospheres, and make viewers want to transport themselves to that beautiful place, all with a well-made photo, without exaggerating, using only simple elements you probably already have at home.
After photographing hundreds of properties, we can tell you that the most successful shoots, the ones that gave us the most spectacular and standout photos we have ever captured, are the ones where clients got involved in the preparation, paying attention to the details and putting in the care required. And of course, they are also the happiest when they see the result of their effort.
